Torres 10 is a Spanish brandy matured using the solera method. It is a product that emerged as a continuation of wine-making and distillation tradition of the Torres family which dates back to the 18th century. We are talking about one of the leading brandy and wine producers in Spain. Torres 10 is also one of the most well-known and sold Spanish brandies worldwide.
The solera system can be described as a maturation and blending technique. While it is commonly used in the production of sherry, rum, and wine, it is also employed in various other types of spirits.
In this system, a certain percentage of the liquid from barrels containing the youngest spirit in the top tier is transferred to barrels in the lower tiers in defined cycles, often yearly. Before each transfer, a portion of the liquid in the bottom tier (solera) is bottled. As a result, the most matured spirit actually contains a blend of spirits that have matured to different extents.
Due to this process, the concept of age statement can be somewhat complex. The label “Torres 10” does not necessarily mean that the youngest spirit in it is 10 years old, although some sources may claim otherwise.
