Château du Breuil VSOP

Brandy

Aged for minimum 4 years in oak barrels

Calvados is a type of apple brandy but can be considered as a subcategory. For an apple brandy to be called Calvados, it must be produced in the Normandy region of France. In Calvados production, some producers can also use pears in addition to apples. When only apples are used, it’s called Calvados de Pomme or simply Calvados. If pears are added, it’s labeled as Calvados de Pomme et Poire. After distillation, they are typically aged in oak barrels.

Château De Breuil is one of the good Calvados producers in the Normandy region of France. The expression you see in this picture, Château du Breuil VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale), has been aged for at least 4 years in oak barrels. It is stated that each bottle contains 27 kg of apples. We already mentioned that it’s a brandy, but don’t confuse Calvados with an apple liqueur. With a 40% alcohol level, and production type, we are talking about a type of brandy, not a liqueur.
