Green Chartreuse is a French herbal liqueur with a 55% alcohol level, containing a blend of 130 different botanicals.

Chartreuse liqueurs have been produced by Carthusian monks since 1737. The recipes for these liqueurs are kept secret and are said to be known only by two monks. These two monks order all the botanicals and create the blend. Afterwards, these blends are sent to the distillery for production.

After the revival of the cocktail industry post-2000, these liqueurs regained popularity, and there has been a significant increase in sales, particularly in recent years. However, in 2019, the Carthusian monks announced that production wouldn’t be increased due to the rising demand, which has made it a bit more challenging to find the liqueur in recent years.

Both Green Chartreuse and Yellow Chartreuse are liqueurs that add a unique dimension to cocktails, even in small amounts.

You might be familiar with the Last Word cocktail, created before the Prohibition era in America; it has gained significant popularity again in recent years. It’s also one of my favorite cocktails.

It would be beneficial to have a bottle of each in your home. They will last long since it is generally used in small amounts in cocktails.
